More telecommunication towers considered

WIND Mobile telecommunication network wants to launch in Mission, and has requested permission to construct three towers.

Three more telecommunication towers could be constructed in Mission.

WIND Mobile telecommunication network wants to launch in Mission, and has requested permission to construct a 41-metre tower at 32086 Lougheed Highway (behind the Mission Sikh Temple) and a 10.9-metre tower at 8294 Cedar Street.

A third, 2.8-metre rooftop tower would be located at 32700 7th Ave. on top of the Chartwell Carrington House Retirement Residence.

A public consultation/information meeting will be held for the two freestanding towers. No meeting is required for the rooftop structure.

The meeting is scheduled for March 30 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in Main Purpose Room #4 at the Mission Leisure Centre located at 7650 Grand Street.

Council will wait to hear the public’s response to the proposal before moving forward.

More towers:

Council has decided to support an application by TM Mobile Inc. (Telus) to construct a 60-metre telecommunications tower at Red Mountain, located on Dewdney Trunk Road in the Steelhead area. The property is Crown-owned land located on the east side of the mountain.

Coun. Carol Hamilton said the tower is “long overdue” and residents are in support of the move.

Coun. Jim Hinds attended the public information meeting and told council “nobody was against it.”
