Updated: one injured in major crash on Hwy. 1 westbound

Traffic was backed up for hours

One person was taken to hospital with what police described as minor injuries after a two-vehicle crash on Hwy. 1 near the 264 Street overpass in Aldergrove shut down westbound traffic Tuesday morning around 6 a.m.

One of the vehicles, a Ford pickup truck, flipped over as a result of the collision with a Hyundai sedan, police said.

The lone occupant of the Ford was taken to hospital. The lone occupant of the Hyundai was uninjured.

The crash scene was cleared by 7 a.m. but congestion remained severe for some time, both on Hwy. 1 east of 264, where traffic had come to a complete stop, and on Fraser Hwy. as drivers tried to avoid the tie up.

No tickets have been issued yet, but the cause of the crash was still under investigation, police said.
