A transformer blew and caught fire atop a street pole in Mission just past 10 a.m. on Thursday morning (April 13).
Mission Fire Rescue Service and Mission RCMP attended the call near Best Avenue and Stave Lake Street but initial attempts to douse the blaze were unsuccessful.
First responders on the scene said because the transformer contains oil, adding water only worsened the situation. The falling rain also didn’t help matters.
BC Hydro were called to the scene to extinguish the fire and a crew arrived just before 11 a.m.
Residents in the neighbourhood are without power, but the incident didn’t stop traffic.
More to come.
