I have been in Mission for 36 years. I was a math and science teacher for 25 years in Surrey where I spent much extracurricular time coaching various sports. I was a teacher on-call in Mission for 15 years.
The last few of those years I was mainly in shop classes and alternate programs.
These programs served the needs of students with behavioural problems and greatly contributed to their success. They have been mostly discontinued. I advocate their return.
As there are increasing concerns of obesity and of diabetes, I would actively support any enhancement of the personalized P.E. program (including nutritional information) of the senior years to enable graduates to take it with them as part of their lifestyles.
As our main method of acquiring knowledge is from reading, I would actively support enhancement of reading skills especially in the lower grades and especially for those who need it.
