PROFILE: Jim Abbott, councillor

Jim Abbott wants to focus on better care for seniors, waterfront development and a strong bond with the public.

Jim and his family moved to Mission 17 years ago, and in that time he has volunteered on the Mission Crisis Line, ran the Community Services Boys Night Out Program, was on the planning committee for the Cedars Senior Housing, sat on the board of directors at Welton Towers as well as Mission Community Services, to which he eventually became vice-president.

Jim has participated in many fundraisers and charity events throughout the Lower Mainland. Haiti, Search and Rescue, Surrey Walk for ALS, etc. If it’s a worthy cause, he and his band are there.

Among his concerns are:

1. Seniors: They paved the way for us, we must treat them with the respect and dignity they deserve, listen to their needs and do the best possible to help them.

2. A tasteful waterfront development to generate revenue.

3. Develop a stronger bond between the public and municipal hall.
