The 4 Wheel Drive Association of B.C. is hosting its 12th annual west Stave Lake cleanup and access rally June 14.
This grassroots event is organized by volunteers and is partly sponsored by BC Hydro. Each year, more volunteers show up to help. In 2013, more than 100 people volunteered their time to make a difference.
Last year alone, more than 80,000 pounds of garbage and steel were removed over two days, and at an earlier cleanup in April of this year, the group collected another 20,000 pounds from the east side of Stave Lake.
Since its inception, volunteers have hauled 200 tonnes of garbage and recycled metals out of the area.
The cleanup starts at 9 a.m., and staging will take place at the corner of Dewdney Trunk Road and Burma Road, immediately west of Stave Lake dam. Lunch and Tim Hortons coffee will be provided.
There are also many areas accessible via car.
