Tracy Loffler, the chair of the Mission School District’s board of education, has announced that she is seeking re-election for her third term.

“I’m proud of what we have accomplished over the past two terms,” she said on Thursday, Sept. 8. “It is my hope that in this third term we can shift our focus from Covid-19 to improving student outcomes and doing the best we can to help ALL students succeed. I am eager to continue in this role and ask for your continued support on October 15.”

Her top goals include improving local student achievement, as Mission kids are falling behind other students in the province; planning ahead for Mission’s growth and capacity issues; focusing on the mental health of students and staff; Truth and Reconciliation, equity, diversity, and making schools more inclusive, according to a press release.

“I will continue to advocate strongly for the replacement of MSS, as well as additions, upgrades, and other new schools.”

Loffler was first elected to the board in 2014, and was re-elected in 2018, serving as vice-chair from 2014 to 2017 before she was elected to the top job.

As a parent of a 2020 graduate and a current Grade 11 student, she says she’s had a front row seat to the challenges of the pandemic and can empathize with students in school.

Loffler also serves as a director for the BC School Trustees Association, and alongside volunteers and ministry staff for the implementation of the Enhancing Student Learning Report.

“I think one of the most important characteristics of an effective school trustee is understanding governance and being clear about the role and what trustees do, and what they don’t do. I’ve also found that positive, respectful relationships are the key to getting things accomplished. I’m looking forward to using my experience to keep moving us forward.”
