A motorcycle rider in his 40s has died, after colliding with a pickup truck shortly before noon Saturday.

The motorbike appears to have collided head-on with a Dodge Ram truck after crossing into its lane on the 33900 block of Old Yale Road, according to Abbotsford Police Cst. Ian MacDonald.

“Indications are that the eastbound motorcycle crossed the centre line into the path of the westbound pickup truck,” reads a police press release.

The motorcycle may have been making a right turn from Gladys Avenue, MacDonald said.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead soon after arriving at hospital.

The 25-year-old driver of the truck and his passenger were both taken to hospital as a precautionary measure, MacDonald said.

They were “shaken but uninjured,” according to the statement.

Old Yale Road will be closed to traffic between Gladys Avenue and Campbell Avenue for at least the next four hours, as investigators work on scene, according to MacDonald.
