Electricity has been restored on the north side of the Fraser River.

Just a few minutes before 7 p.m., BC Hydro crews brought the lights back on after approximately an hour and a half. A transmission circuit failure was initially blamed, according to hydro's website, but when crews investigated, they found there was a protection equipment malfunction at the Mission substation, said Mora Scott, BC Hydro spokesperson.

The electricity went out shortly after 5 p.m., and BC Hydro's website says about 16,000 homes were without power between Ruskin and the District of Kent, and some parts of Abbotsford.
