Drug and weapons charges are pending against two men after police ran a licence-plate check in Abbotsford last Wednesday (Nov. 24).

Const. Paul Walker said officers were conducting routine patrols in the 32000 block of Marshall Road when they noticed a vehicle idling in a hotel parking lot.

They ran checks on the licence plate and noted that the registered owner of the vehicle had a driving suspension. Walker said officers approached the vehicle, and the driver was identified as being a prohibited driver.

He said the officers noticed evidence of drugs in plain view. The driver was arrested, and a search of the vehicle was conducted.

Three firearms were found in the vehicle – including a handgun under the driver’s seat – as were a “large quantity” of drugs, Walker said.

The three other occupants of the car were arrested for gun-related charges.

Walker said the investigation is continuing, and numerous drug and firearms charges are being recommended against two men, ages 34 and 40.

“This arrest and seizure demonstrates the work our men and women on the front lines do each and every day to make Abbotsford the safest city in B.C.,” Walker said.

“By removing these weapons and drugs, this will have a positive impact on public safety moving forward within the Abbotsford area.”
