Volunteers cleaning up at Stave Lake Saturday

The 12th annual event gets underway at 9 a.m. at Dewdney Trunk Road and Burma Road

The second of two cleanups around Stave Lake happens this Saturday.

The 4 Wheel Drive Association of B.C. is hosting the 12th annual event, which is organized by volunteers and is partly sponsored by BC Hydro. Volunteers from the Mission Adopt-A-Block will also be on hand to help.

Last year, more than 80,000 pounds of garbage and steel were removed over two days, and at an earlier cleanup in April of this year, the group collected another 20,000 pounds from the east side of Stave Lake.

Since its inception, volunteers have hauled 200 tonnes of garbage and recycled metals out of the area.

The cleanup starts at 9 a.m., and staging will take place at the corner of Dewdney Trunk Road and Burma Road, immediately west of Stave Lake dam. Lunch and Tim Hortons coffee will be provided.

There are also many areas accessible via car.
