Police officers, politicians and ordinary women and men from across Canada sent well-wishes and statements of support to the Abbotsford Police after Monday’s deadly shooting.
In the B.C. legislature, NDP house leader Mike Farnworth and interim Liberal leader Rich Coleman each rose to praise the heroism of Const. John Davidson.
On Facebook and Twitter, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau wrote “Police work in harm’s way to protect us all. My deepest sympathies to the family of the Abbotsford Police Department officer killed in the line of duty.
Conservative Abbotsford MP Ed Fast wrote “our hearts are filled with sadness at the loss of this life,” and thanked Trudeau for his words. Conservative leader Andrew Scheer and Minister of Defence Harjit Sajjan also expressed their condolences.

Premier John Horgan wrote on Twitter that he was “deeply saddened” to hear of the death of Const. John Davidson.

Local MLAs Mike de Jong and Abbotsford-Mission MLA Simon Gibson said in a statement their thoughts were with the friends and family of the officer who was killed.
“Our community and our police department are tight-knit and today’s tragedy impacts all of us,” the statement continued. “The men and women of our police forces across this province go to work every day knowing the danger they face in keeping our communities safe. These are the days we all dread. They are heroes.”
