WEISS

Adolph Horst (Alf) Weiss, age 73, passed away on January 3rd, 2014 at his home in Cloverdale, BC of natural causes. Alf was born in Siegfriedsdorf, Germany on October 3, 1940 to Justus and Helena (Nee Müller) Weiss. In 1945, his family fled from the advancing Russian army, then immigrated to Canada via the MV Beaverbrae in 1948. They settled in Winnipeg. Alf took up the sheet metal trade, and built thousands of ducts that have helped warm tens of thousands of people. Alf moved to Vancouver in 1968, where he met Martha Martens, the love of his life. They were married 10 months later on September 13, 1969. Alf’s great loves were his family (especially his grand- children), walking, bird-watching, fixing things, journaling, and eating good bread with good jam. Alf served for many years with Christian Service Brigade and as a shepherding elder at Sevenoaks Alliance Church. In his later years, he traveled to Alabama and Australia to visit family and take in nature.

Alf was preceded in death by his parents Justus and Helena Weiss, brothers Erik (Hanna - deceased), Sigmund (Katie), and Erwin (Helen), infant brother Gerhard, and sisters Elsa Kalbert (Henry) and Inge Brandt (Norman). Alf is survived by his wife Martha, daughter Devana (Mike), son Derek, brother Ernst (Katherine - deceased), sister Alma Neuman (Lawrence - deceased), brother Arhardt (Elfrieda), brothers Arno (Linda), and Gerhard (Sheryl), grandchildren Kathryn and Erik Weiss Beach, and many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A memorial will be held at Pacific Community Church 5337 - 180 St, Surrey, on Saturday, January 11 at 11:30 am. All are welcome. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Child Evangelism Fellowship or the Gideons.
