May 11, 1959 - January 26, 2024

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Christine Schmor announces her passing on January 26, 2024, at the age of sixty-four. Christine passed peacefully surrounded by her loving family.

Christine was born in Cranbrook B.C. on May 11th, 1959. She was the eldest of four children born to Earl and Ruth Schmor. After stops in Kitimat, Kelowna, and Campbell River the family settled in Mission where Christine graduated from Mission Senior Secondary.

Christine completed a teaching degree at UBC in 1982. Christine began her teaching career in Quesnel, British Columbia enduring the long Cariboo winters, in a lovely log cabin, with colleagues that would become lifelong friends.

Christine always knew that she wanted to be with family and returned to Mission in 1987 where she taught English at Hatzic Secondary School. She also embarked on a side business of buying and selling restored antiques. Christine's passion for teaching, along with her love of literature, made her a master teacher, who was loved by her students.

Christine loved to travel and took trips to Europe, Asia, northern Africa and throughout Canada. She shared this love with her students, organizing and leading student trips to Egypt, Turkey, Italy, and the British Isles.

In 2010, Christine left Hatzic Secondary for what turned out to be her dream job. She became the librarian at Heritage Park Middle School. Christine believed strongly that a library should be a welcoming and engaging place, where all students and teachers could talk freely about literature and life. Chris read voraciously and knew just the book for any student, staff, or family member. This was her gift.

In retirement Christine continued her passion for literature. Whether it be Shakespeare, film, or fiction novels, she could be counted on to have a meaningful and thoughtful discussion on any topic. Retirement also allowed her to re-ignite her passion for restoring antiques, and her beautiful little home had many treasures.

She became an avid gardener, and her lovely patio was always filled with colourful blooms. Chris loved being an aunt to her nieces and nephews who adored her. She was a thoughtful and caring daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. Chris will be missed.

Christine is survived by her brothers Bruce (Katrina), Brent (Carolynn) and nieces' nephews Ella, Lucy, Mac, Ben, and Ethan.

Christine is predeceased by her parents Ruth and Earl Schmor, sister Sally, and sister-in-law Rita.
