Eric David Hearn

March 19, 1933 - January 25, 2024

The family of Eric David Hearn is sad to announce his passing on January 25th, 2024. Eric was born March 19, 1933, in Kent England.

Eric worked as a machinist in the Merchant Marines before coming to Canada in 1967. He met Edwina Victoria Hearn soon after arriving and they were married in 1972. Together they built a beautiful home where they had a bed and breakfast for many years.

He loved Canada and decided to stay here when his ship ran into trouble. He was very proud when he did finally become a Canadian citizen. Eric worked as head machinist for CP Rail and in addition to his regular duties, he worked numerous overtime hours. Eric spent many of the overtime hours fabricating numerous obsolete components on the Royal Hudson 2860 Steam Locomotive.

In his spare time Eric was never still, he repaired all kinds of small motors; was a creative inventor and innovator, additionally he was a great gardener; his roses and dahlias were stunning, he cultivated fruit trees, and the back yard was like a beautiful park.

Eric was predeceased by his parents, his brother Clive, his wife Edwina, his son James (Margaret), and sister-in-law Jane Wagner.

He leaves to mourn him sons, Charles(Donna) and Jack (Vicky), daughters Charlene (John), Christine, and Janine, niece Teresa and 18 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.

Grieving with the family is his very dear friend Caroline and his long-time friend Paul. His many friends and family will miss his dry wit, his calm advice and wisdom, and his quiet way of showing his love and affection.

Interment Services for Eric will be held April 12th, 2024, 11 am at the Hatzic Cemetery, and following that at 12 noon at the Hatzic Prairie Community Hall 10845 Farms Rd, Fraser Valley (Hatzic) the Memorial service and lunch and a time to share some memories of Eric with the family.
