Ruth was born and raised in Barriere, BC. She met James in Chinook Cove while he was a summer pastor. They were married in 1948 and settled in Clearwater, BC for a few years before returning to Barriere, BC to take over the Schmidt family farm (which is now the location of Chinook Cove Golf). In 1974, Ruth and James moved to a larger dairy farm in New Sarepta, Alberta. They moved back to BC in 1984, settling in Mission for their retirement years.
Ruth was known for her huge vegetable and flower gardens. She was an avid gardener and a great cook. Ruth made the best apple pies and homemade fresh bread amongst many other delicious creations. Ruth enjoyed spending time with family. She loved camping, fishing and her cats. She spent countless hours helping others. Ruth was a well loved volunteer at the Mission M.C.C. store. She was also very involved with her churches: St. Stephen's Community Church and St. Andrew's United Church. During the past 6 years Ruth lived at The Residence in Mission (Dewdney Community). The family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to the staff at T.R.I.M. who took such great care of our Mother.
A graveside service will be held in Barriere, BC at a future date.

Three little words, Forget me not.
Don't seem much, but mean a lot.
Just a memory fond and true,
To show, dear mother, we think of you.
