LETTER: It’s time to start using technology

This is the public servant who runs the finances in the tens of billions of dollars and does so out of a shoe box full of notes.

Mike de Jong is just an old farmer who is not into emails as a form of communication but instead sticky notes, memos and rotary phones. Hmmm.

This is the elected public servant who runs the finances in the tens of billions of dollars for an entire province and does so out of a shoe box full of notes and memos that are not available to the public because he, as Christy cites, “is just a farmer and some don’t use email.”

If I were a farmer I would be insulted. However, within CKNW’s FOI return was an email from de Jong’s chief of staff. saying the minister “does not participate in emailing, just notes and memos. This is his personal preference as a way to manage and prioritize the volume of information his portfolio already entails.”

Really?

As a public servant, his personal preference in doing his job should be governed by his bosses, the electorate. Hey Mike, it’s 2016, not 1916.
