LETTER: Safeway should stay in Mission

‘We don’t need another low cost store, We need Safeway, as it is’

This concerns all of us in Mission. Safeway, as we know it, is closing down.

Safeway has given us the opportunity, as customers, of picking name brands or lower priced items as we so choose. We are the seniors, of which Mission has many. We are the disabled, mentally and physically, who have trouble navigating the aisles of the Super Store, Save-On-Foods and Walmart.

But it is not the convenience of shopping at Safeway; it’s the people who work there, their welcoming smiles and the never failing question, “Do you need help taking your groceries out to your car?”

These are the same caring staff members who take time away from their task to take you to an item which you cannot find. The staff of Safeway is a family and their smiles include us in that family.

We don’t need another low cost store, We need Safeway, as it is, continuing to serve the community, as it has always done so well, in Mission.
