The Fraser River Delta (Zone 4) team skipped by Richmond resident Brayden Carpenter didn’t get a lead in Sunday’s gold medal match until the ninth end.

But they scored once in the first extra end and lifted the Royal City Curling Club team to 5-4 victory over Vancouver’s Jay Ueda of the North Shore Curling Club.

Ueda had a pair of two-point leads in the championship game, but Carpenter battled back with two in the fifth and two more in the eighth to pull even and force an extra end.

Joining Carpenter on the gold medal team are Tyler Proctor and Breyden Chong of Burnaby and New Westminster’s Horace Mak.

Taking the silver medal are the Vancouver-Squamish (Zone 5) foursome of Vancouver residents Ueda, Arthur Lee, Keegan Lennie and Matthew Chan, and North Vancouver’s Cullen Quek of North Vancouver.

Ueda went into the gold medal match undefeated after four games while Carpenter had lost just once, a 5-3 setback to Ueda in Friday afternoon’s round robin clash.
