The BC Winter Games got an early start on Thursday afternoon with a pair of female hockey games at the Mission Leisure Centre, and it was the Thompson-Okanagan Zone 2 squad serving notice to the rest of the field that they're a team to be reckoned with.
Thompson-Okanagan blew out the North West Zone 7 team 11-1, behind a five-point explosion (two goals, three assists) from Coldstream native Molly Box. Katelynn Merritt, Allison Borrow, Ts'setkwu Dunstan-Foottit, Makenna Southam, Mairyn Tucker, Jenna Fletcher and Anna Morrish added singles.
The first game of the day was a defensive battle between Fraser River Delta and Vancouver Squamish, and it ended in a scoreless tie.
The female hockey tournament resumes on Friday morning at the Mission Leisure Centre.
