Local basketball stars Teresa Gabriele and Sam Freeman were honoured at the Basketball B.C. Hall of Fame and Awards Gala last Saturday at the Langley Events Centre.

Gabriele, a point guard from Mission who was a 13-year member of the Canadian senior women's national team, was inducted into the Hall of Fame. She guided Team Canada to two Olympics (2000 and 2012) and represented Canada at the World Championships and Pan American Games.

Freeman, who recently completed his fifth and final season with the University of the Fraser Valley men's basketball team, was named B.C.'s top university player. He finished second in Canada West in scoring at 21.2 points per game, and was named a first team conference all-star.

Additionally, UFV's Aieisha Luyken was nominated for the top B.C. women's university player award, but she lost out to SFU's Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe.
