Kraakman and Kong win match in Trinidad

The Deroche golfer is competing at the Stephen Ames Cup

Deroche's Brooklyn Kraakman and teammate Alix Kong captured their match 2-1 on the opening day of competition at the eighth annual Stephen Ames Cup, held in Trinidad.

The local golfers win helped the Canadians pull ahead in the four-ball matches with a 3-1 lead.

Kraakman and Kong played in the final match of the day against Brittany Marquez and Christina Ferreira. They came out firing and never looked back. The pair opened up a three-point lead on the back nine, and maintained their composure during a two-hole stretch that saw Trinidad tighten up the match.

Kong's 10-foot par putt on 17 halved the hole to give the Canadians their third point of the day.
