The clock is ticking away for the 2018 B.C. Summer Games, and Mission athletes are set to invade Cowichan in less than a month.

Mission competitors will team up with athletes from Abbotsford, Aldergrove, Langley, Maple Ridge, Pitt Meadows, Hope and Agassiz on the Fraser Valley Zone 3 team at the event, which runs from July 19 to 22.

There will be a significant local flavour in both box and field lacrosse at the event, with eight Mission residents either competing, officiating or coaching in the sport.

Mission’s Ryder Bremner, Kai Maenpaa, Noah Mayer and Trase Recsky are suiting up for the Fraser Valley squad in box lacrosse, with Ethan Self competing in field lacrosse. Taj Grewal and Harpreet Grewal are the field lacrosse head coach and assistant coaches respectively, with Brent Boutilier named an official for box lacrosse.

The Fraser Valley girls rugby team will have Mission’s Alancia Jeffery and Kira Katan, while the girls five-on-five basketball team features locals Maggie Hampton and Gillian Hampton as an adult supervisor.

Other Mission athletes heading to the Games include: Matthew Burns (Special Olympics athletics), Kaden Scott (towed water sports) and Josiah Kruger (boys volleyball).
