Four Mission cheerleaders won silver medals for Canada at the 2023 International Cheer Union (ICU) World Cheerleading Championships.

Mission’s Summer Lindt, Willow Van Nen, Taylor Buckman and Mckenzie Sexton helped Canada earn one of its four medals at the event. The team features athletes from throughout BC.

The championships were hosted in Orlando, Florida and the Canadian squad won silver in the Youth Coed Median event. England finished first and took home the gold medal, while Chile got the bronze medal.

Lindt and Van Nen are both cheerleaders with the Mission Academy of Cheer while Buckman and Sexton are members of the Vancouver All Stars.

The Mission residents made the cut for BC Sport Cheer’s Youth Team BC in June of 2022.

In mid-December, the BC team completed a video application to represent Canada at the world championships and the squad learned they were successful in January.

The squad also showcased their talents in March at the BC Provincial Championships in Victoria.
