The Mission Midget A2 lacrosse team earned a provincial bronze medal over the weekend in Burnaby.

The club opened the four-day event with a 7-6 win over Richmond on July 26, and then took down Ridge Meadows 8-6 on July 27.

Mission suffered its first loss of the tournament to Saanich on July 28, losing 6-4 and then fell 5-4 to Nanaimo later that day. The team then bounced back in the bronze-medal game, beating Kelowna 10-4 to earn third place.

The final saw Nanaimo defeat Saanich 3-2.

Mission’s Matt Collis was named to the tournament all-star team, while Trase Recsky received the Warrior Fair Play Award.

The team qualified for the tournament by going 6-2 in playoff action, which came off a strong regular season that saw them compile a record of 11-7-4.

Team representatives thanked the coaching staff of head coach Sean Downey and assistant coaches Jeff Self, Craig Vetterl and Josh Bramley for their efforts in helping the players improve their game while keeping them motivated to ensure success at the provincial level.
