Mission Outlaws supporting MSS Dry Grad at Saturday’s home opener

Outlaws open season against Surrey Knights, new ownership planning collaborative year
The Mission Outlaws 2022-23 home opener occurs on Saturday (Sept. 17) at the Mission Leisure Centre.

The Mission City Outlaws return to the rink on Saturday (Sept. 17) and have invited the entire grad class of Mission Secondary School to support Dry Grad and pump up the atmosphere for the regular season home opener.

The Outlaws are under new ownership for this season in the Pacific Junior Hockey League, and their stated goal is to build deeper community connections and to provide support to local schools, charities and businesses.

Plans are in the works to hold fundraisers for groups such as the food bank, the Mission Community Foundation and Mission Minor Hockey Association and others. On Saturday they will accept donations and raising awareness for Dry Grad.

“We recognize there is a need within our community for our youth to have a fun, safe place to spend time with friends,” stated the team’s marketing director Krista Dhaliwal in an email. “Our goal is to make Saturday night game nights in Mission a fun filled, exciting place for families and all age groups to attend.”

Tailgate barbecues and traditional drumming from Leqamel First Nation are some of the events planned.

Mission takes on the Surrey Knights on Saturday at the Mission Leisure Centre at 6:45 p.m. The Outlaws open the season against the Ridge Meadows Flames in Maple Ridge on Friday.
