The Mission Racers Speed Skating Club hosted a competition on the North Rink at Mission Leisure Centre on Dec. 12.

The event saw 89 skaters from across the Lower Mainland attending as this was the last opportunity for the BC Winter Games eligible skaters to get their best times to try to qualify before the Dec. 30 deadline.

Having gone a whole season with no competitions but still training hard the skaters were excited to get back to racing and many achieved new personal best times.

Mission Racer Elliot Barnsdale qualified to represent Zone 3 at the BC Winter Games – to be held in Vernon in February 2022 - while other Mission Racers await the allocation of further places in the new year.

For some skaters this was their first experience of competition racing. Mission Racers skater Prabnoor who only started learning to speed skate in September raced four races at the meet and was presented with a PACE award at practice for skating in her first competition.

Mission Racers Speed Skating Club practice Tuesdays and Thursdays on the North rink and welcome kids aged five and up to come and learn this Olympic Sport.
