The Mission Stars shined in Terrace last week (March 19-23) and captured a gold medal at the BC Hockey Provincial Championship.
The Stars went undefeated in the Under-18 Tier 3 boys’ playoffs to earn another championship banner for Mission.
A pair of goals from Kai Murphy powered the Stars to a 6-4 victory in the championship game against Aldergrove on Thursday (March 23) at Terrace Sportsplex. Shawn Pesek added a goal and two assists for Mission in the win.
Mission started provincials with four consecutive wins. They defeated the Prince George Cougars 7-4, North Island Eagles 8-5, Terrace Minor Hockey 4-3, and Whitehorse Mustangs 3-1.
In the semifinal against the Smithers Storm, a Pesek hat-trick led the Stars to a 5-2 win. Daniel Schmidt also notched a goal and two assists for Mission in the semis to punch the squad’s ticket to the championship.
Schmidt led the team in points during the trip to Terrace with 12 (5 G 7 A), while Pesek tallied 10 points (6 G 4 A) and Samuel Gerbrand had 7 (3 G 4 A).
Colton Harrison started four games in goal for the Stars during provincials while Emmitt Lindgren started the other pair of games.
Mission Minor Hockey had a successful run at the BC Hockey Provincial Championships overall, with the Under-15 A1 team winning gold and the Under-15 A2 team taking home silver.
