The Mission City Outlaws continued its 2019 turnaround on Friday by picking up a 5-3 win over the Port Moody Panthers on the road.

After falling behind 1-0 after 20 minutes, the Outlaws exploded for four consecutive goals and took a 4-2 lead after two.

Kyle Mooney, Tristan Takats and Liam Warren (two) tallied in the middle frame, with Warren’s second goal coming on the power play.

The two teams traded goals in the third, with Mooney picking up his second of the game early in the period on the power play.

Mooney, who returned the Outlaws after being dealt to the Panthers back in November, collected a team-high three points in the win and leads the team with 33 points in 32 games. Warren had a strong game with two assists to go along with his two goals. Also recording multi-point nights were: Michael Nemeth (two assists), Justin Hargrave (two assists) and Dawson Campbell (two assists).

Special teams also proved to be a factor in the win, as the Outlaws went two-for-four with the man advantage, and also killed off six of the seven times they were down a man.

Mission goalie Andrew Edgecombe stopped 30 shots to record his second win on the season.

The Outlaws record moves to 10-23-3 with the win, and they remain in fifth place in the Harold Brittain conference and 11th place overall in the Pacific Junior Hockey League.

Mission next takes on the Ridge Meadows Flames in Maple Ridge on Friday night. The club then returns home on Saturday for its first home game of 2019 when the Langley Trappers come to town. Face-off is set for 6:45 p.m. at the Mission Leisure Centre.

In other Outlaws news, Mooney and Nemeth represented the Outlaws and the Brittain conference on Monday night in Maple Ridge at PJHL all-star game. The Brittain conference lost 14-11 to the Tom Shaw conference in the midseason event.

Outlaws players are also expected to be named to the Brittain conference team for the annual Prospects Game, which occurs on Jan. 28 in White Rock. That event features the top first and second year players in the league.
