The Mission City Outlaws came back from a 3-1 deficit in the third period to defeat the Surrey Knights 4-3 on Saturday evening (Jan. 28) at Mission Leisure Centre.
Cole Moffat scored the shootout winner to power the ‘Laws to victory and give the team back-to-back wins for the first time since November. After defeating the Knights 4-3 in a shootout on Jan. 19 in Surrey, the Outlaws picked up the same result at home just over a week later. Mission outshot Surrey 57-39 in the contest, with DJ Cash stopping 53 shots in a losing effort.
Robbie Toor opened the scoring in the seventh minute for the Knights before Brayden Chenier answered with an unassisted goal just under two minutes later. However, Bronson Sales put Surrey ahead 2-1 heading into the first intermission with his 15th goal of the season.
After Mission’s Cayden Karcioglu picked up a slashing penalty late in the second period, Brad Collins capitalized on the power play to give Surrey a commanding 3-1 lead.

The Outlaws increased the pressure in the third, outshooting the Knights 28-10. The shots on net bore fruit at the midway point of the period, with Brayden Candy scoring shorthanded to cut the lead in half. After Collins picked up a roughing penalty in the 17th minute and Hudson Longden picked up a cross checking penalty in the 18th minute, the Outlaws had five-on-three power play late. Mission defenceman Jayden Martin tied the game at 3-3 with a power play goal to force overtime.
Nothing was decided after five minutes of free hockey, so the two teams were forced into another shootout. After six consecutive shooters failed to score, Moffat found the back of the net to put the pressure on Surrey. Parkor Sarai couldn’t beat Mission netminder Max Fowle and Mission escaped with a win.
The Outlaws improve their record to 23-19 on the season and maintain their position in third place in the PJHL’s Harold Brittain conference with a playoff spot clinched.
Next up, Mission plays the Ridge Meadows Flames at Cam Neely Arena Planet Ice at 8:45 p.m. on Sunday before another road game at Minoru Arena on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. for a matchup with the Richmond Sockeyes.
