A pair of Mission swimmers are set to pack their bags for the Canada Summer Games in Winnipeg this summer.
Mission residents Sheigh-ann Gaudette and Haley Klenk both qualified to make the team after outstanding results at the Canadian Western Championships in Calgary in April.
The pair, who swim for the Chilliwack Spartans Swim Club, excelled at the CWC event which saw the top 13- to 17-year-old swimmers battle it out for a spot on their respective provincial teams at the Games.
Klenk earned bronze medals in both the 200 metres backstroke and in the 4X100m free relay at the event. She also placed fifth in the 100m backstroke and 12th in the 100m fly.
Gaudette picked up a fourth-place finish in the 100m breaststroke and placed eighth in the 200m breaststroke.
The pair will join 22 other swimmers on the SwimBC team at the event.
Both girls started their swimming careers with the Mission Marlins Summer Swim program, and then they moved on to swim with the Spartans’ winter program.
Klenk and Gaudette also recently completed the Team BC training camp and followed that up with competing at the 54th annual Mel Zajac Jr. International swim meet at UBC from May 26 to 28.
Swimming events at the Canada Games kick off on Aug. 7 at the Pan-Am Pool in Winnipeg, and wrap up on Aug. 11.
