I woke up this morning to my alarm in preparation to see Canada's hockey heroes hit the ice for the gold medal game at the Sochi Olympics.
It was a proud moment for me to see the Canadian flag raised and our anthem playing in the background. But later in the morning, I was introduced to a whole new group of heroes. After watching Canada dominate men’s Olympic hockey it was off to cover wheelchair basketball.
The first thing I noticed was the intensity and passion of every athlete on the floor. Then I noticed how well they worked together as a team just like all the men and women that represented Canada in Sochi did.
A majority of these athletes have had to battle adversity at some point in their life, and probably more than you or I ever will. Right away you can tell everyone of these athletes is a fighter – they don’t know the words quit or cannot.
On a day when the power of sport can bring an entire nation together watching multi-millionaires represent your country, I was able to be a part of something just as powerful. The BC Winter Games athletes are competing for a medal, but at the end of the day, they are all champions!
