Marijuana has been legal in Canada for almost one full year now, and what better way to celebrate the anniversary then a visit from beloved stoners Cheech and Chong?
The Grammy Award-winning comedy duo comes to the Abbotsford Centre tonight (Thursday) as part of the O Cannabis Tour.
Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong hit the stage (and probably also the bong) at 8 p.m.
Abbotsford is the final stop on the tour’s 14-city stop, which began in Toronto on Sept. 22.
The show is an all-new performance that highlights some of the more than 50 years of stories, skits and songs from the weed icons.
Cheech and Chong formed in the late-1960s, originally gaining a strong following in Southern California with albums, stand-up shows and low-budget movies before producing the cult classic Up in Smoke in 1978.
The movie was a massive financial success, earning over $44 million at the box office on a very low film budget. Six more movies followed in the 1980s, before the pair’s contentions split later that decade.
Recent years have seen the duo produce a successful animated film based on their antics.
Tickets are still available for the show at ticketmaster.ca.
It’s unclear what kind of munchies will be available at the show, but attendees should be aware that there is a 7-11 located close to the Abbotsford Centre in case cheezies, chips, candy or chocolates are needed urgently.
