The Nightmare Haunted House at the Silverdale Hall at 8760 McLean St. saw a strong turnout to be scared by local firefighters raising money for the local Christmas bureau.

The haunted house had been run out of Mission Fire Rescue Association station 3, said organizer Steve Sikora, but then got moved for this year.

“Firefighters and family members have volunteered endless amounts of hours to make sure that this haunted house goes off without a hitch,” Sikora said. “Since COVID, we’ve had a two-year suspension of this operation, during this time we weren’t even sure if we were going to make it happen this year.”

But Sikora said a big group effort got the project up and running for this year.

“Many of our families have gone without seeing their loved ones if it wasn’t for the countless hours it takes to set up and man the haunted house over the days that it is open this haunted house this event would not be successful,” he said. “It’s only successful because of its volunteers every year – we have young kids, teenagers and adults all volunteering, putting on their scariest outfits to haunt the public.”
