Repairs to Wren Street are over three months away, according to a City of Mission update on the state of the damaged road.

The 8100 Block of Wren Street had a 100-metre portion of its road collapse by approximately one metre during the November flood events.

The slope next to the road needs to be stabilized, and the sanitary force main repaired before the road can be repaired, according to a Jan. 25 update from the city’s public works department.

“The city looked at options to partially open the road. However, due to the potential for further deterioration of the roadway and prohibitively high costs related to safety measures, this is deemed infeasible,” the update says.

A geotechnical engineer has been hired to make an assessment, who discussed repair concepts with the city’s engineering team and a civil consultant last week.

They will make a report at the beginning of February, which will be reviewed before a repair contract is put out to tender.

“The availability of contractors and materials will determine the timeframe of construction. The city is expecting construction to begin in April with a construction period of at least a month, weather dependent,” the update said.

The city applied for provincial Disaster Financial Assistance and was approved.

Detour routes are in effect along Nelson and Silverdale Avenue, and the city asks people using them to watch for pedestrians and respect speed limits.
